Become a Client
Thank you for your interest in becoming a client of L. Roy Papp & Associates.
Our process
We begin by thoroughly getting to know you and learning about your unique financial situation. Our clients are all different and have varying financial goals—some are business owners, executives, physicians, or retirees, among many other types. Some of our clients are very conservative and desire maximum safety and liquidity, others are willing and able to take on more risk in exchange for higher long term growth potential, and many are somewhere in the middle looking for an attractive balance of growth and income.
As an investor with L. Roy Papp & Associates, you will be assigned a primary portfolio manager. A second portfolio manager will also be up to date on your portfolio, ensuring that there will always be an experienced investment professional available to you.
In face-to-face meetings and phone conversations with our portfolio managers, we’ll listen to your goals, objectives, dreams and challenges. We’ll also take an inventory of your assets and liabilities, current and historical cash flow, investment portfolios, and income levels. Our discussions will address your financial goals and objectives, tolerance for risk, tax situation, estate planning, challenges that you or your family face, and sources of income and anticipated expenses.
One of the most critical factors to assess is to what extent your day-to-day living expenses depend on income from your investment portfolio. It is possible you may have a consistent need for cash flow, but from time to time you may also need larger sums of capital to fund special needs. We will work with you to design a custom strategy aligned with your short, intermediate, and long term goals.
Many people wish not only to fund their lifestyle goals but also to leave a legacy. This suggests a long-term investment horizon. Based on your age, net worth, return objectives, and tolerance for risk, your assets may be invested over a long period of time, which may allow for the ability to accept short-term volatility in exchange for higher long-term growth potential. Also, given the dramatic, negative impact from inflation over multi-decade periods, it is necessary to have investments that will keep pace with or exceed the rate of inflation.
Many individuals also need to have adequate liquidity and safety, therefore we believe that the goal should not be for the highest possible return nor should an investor take unjustified risks. We will work closely with you to determine the right balance between long-term growth (to maintain portfolio purchasing power and provide funds for special needs) and current income, safety, and liquidity.
